Al Gore book “Aninconvenient truth” – a new religion for naives?
It´s hard to speak about the book because of its controverse author. Al Gore – like all politicians – has his fans and enemies. Some pray for him, others make fun of him. I would like to say: let’s forget about Al gore – and concentrate on what he wants to tell us.
Unfortunately that’s quite impossible, because 70% of what the author talks about – is himself. He starts the book with a recollection of his unsuccessful election campaign, that he lost to George W. Bush. Later, he repeatedly tries to shed his mortification by criticizing Bush and his adminsitration.
To me, global warming is an important issue, because it touches our most important problem – we are too many. Lately, our population has been growing extremely fast. If this trend continues, 2050 new years eve should celebrate 9,5 billion people alive. Such a big number of people destroying earth can damage it very easily. Unfortunately, Mr. Gore doesn’t invite me to a discussion – instead, he is inviting the reader to a monologue, which reminds me of a middle-age church priest’s sermon.
The end of the world is here – when THAT DAY comes, the savers receive gratitude and all sceptics will have to admid that they were wrong. That’s how he finishes his books’ introduction. I have to admit that after reading this, I wouldn’t usually have continued with this book; but I forced myself because I really wanted to write this review.
Democrat Al Gore is loyal to his party line and uses the same demagogy as Barack Obama. Elements of which are exaggeration and appealing to our feelings. Instead of arguments and evidence he gives us drastic examples.
I feel this book is writen for young people, more exactly US teenagers. It sounds strange to me when sometimes this book is seriously offered as a read for everybody. It makes you feel like an idiot, because the explanations in this book are so extremely dumbed down: you read a few simple sentences and look at a lot of pictures.
Colorful imagines make the book interactive. Al Gore leads you on an excursion around the world. Like the ghost of Christmas he appeals to our conscience and shows us how much we damage this world. Do you still disbelieve in global warming ?
As a final argument, demagog Al Gore compares global warming with how cigarettes harm your health, more specifically – lung cancer. His reasoning goes like this: scientists haven’t found or proven the cause of lung cancer – the same holds true for global warming. We can only make logical explanations from what we do and see. There was a time when we didn´t believe that cigarettes harm our health – like now we don’t believe in global warming, but changes happening in the world are so clear it’s impossible not to believe anymore.
Al Gore, all the time weaving his own story into the doomsday scenario he’s describing, at the end gives us a heart-breaking example – the story of his sister, who died from skin cancer, because she smoked too much. Al Gore, powerless to save her, saw the looming disaster too late. The way he writes about the hope in her eyes, full of tears, during the last moments of her life is so emotional, I believe a lot readers were crying at this point. After this, how could anyone dare to keep asking questions about the evidence of global warming ?
The book is useful because you can find a lot of ideas about contemporary man, who doesn’t care about his surroundings and what he leaves behind. Also, this book is a good manual on general demagogy. But I didn’t get what this book has to do with global warming. If you also didn’t find what you were looking for in this book – don’t worry. Al Gore its not Global warming. If you don’t believe Al Gore, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have to believe in Global Warming.

Įrašas apie nieką. ‘Goras yra demagogas’, pakartokim 20 kartų – gausim šitą įrašą. Ačiū, kad pražudėte 5 mano gyvenimo minutes.
I saw the movie. And as I understood it is the same in the book.
Mostly I agree with the writer of this article. The biggest thing I did not like in the movie was that Al does not care about scientific facts.
This is an example of “skepticism for naives”. You can foul yourself just as badly with copying those “smart” jokes from Gore-bashing think-tanks.
The real standard of demagogy, exaggeration and fear mongering is in the current White house, Washington DC. Terror, terror…
I HAD NOT READ UR ATICLES FOR DAYS BECAUSE I WAS ON HOLIDAY BEFORE。 NOW I FINISHED READING ALL OF THEM WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH。 ONE FUNNY THING—TONIGHT I READ ANOTHER ATICLE ABOUT AL GORE。 THE AUTHOR IS A PHYCOLOGIST AND HE SAYS THAT AL GORE HAS “COUNTERFACTUAL THINKING”。I GUESS I HAVE BETTER TO READ AL GORE’S BOOK TO CHECK IT。
Eimantai,
Tai ta ir norejau pasakyti kad jis demagogas. Malonu kad supratai.
Sceptic,

Hey, man,
Your insigths may be worth checking out, but your English sucks…
Hi Andrius:
I think you didn’t understand almost nothing about the real message from Al Gore. He never compares the issue of Global Warming and Climate Change with the problem which his sister had. It was very bad understanding in my very humble opinion. Of course, everybody have the right for see whatever he or she wants. But the perspective who you put the things is not ok, therefore i think you must put more attention in the opinions that you write down, if they are based in solid knowledge or only your personal ideas about what is propaganda or what is demagogy, because demagogy is what you have writing above….
Antonio
If he didnt compare his sisters problems with global warming, why then he wrote about his sister in the book aobut global warming?
He wrote about his sister problems in the way to comparing how we are aware about the problems arround us. The main message in his book as well in the movie, aside the cientific evidences that he present to us, it was about to be awake, awake up because the problem is not in future, is not something will happen in 10 or 20 years, it happens now. The problems with his sister, father’s farmer, etc, it is a examples how we need face the challenges in our life.
